Single Mothers Unite (SMU) was established in 2013 as an online community for Single Mothers of Central VA to engage and connect. We provide support for one another by forming a sisterhood of love, encouragement, empowerment, and inspiration. This blog is an extension of the community to highlight and explore the challenges, problems, and realities of single motherhood.
ABOUT THE FOUNDER
Certified Life Coach and Mentor, Megan Stevens, has been working with single mothers for over a decade to provide support and at times mentorship. In 2013, after years of connecting with and relating to other single mothers, she decided to start a single mother's support group in Central Virginia. Single Mother's Unite (SMU) served as a liaison between other single mothers through a virtual hub and social media presence along with hosting monthly meetings and bringing in speakers to empower all who attended.
As a single mother of three, Megan, has journeyed through the mountains and valleys of single parenthood for the past seventeen years. With many rewarding experiences and obstacles alike, single parenthood has been anything but easy.
Megan earned a bachelor's degree in Communications from Grand Canyon University and a master's degree in Multimedia Journalism from Full Sail University. Today, she uses her skilled abilities as a journalist to tell other people's stories. As a single mother, she enjoys highlighting the successes, victories, and obstacles concerning the lives of other single mothers.
